Usually we can remove about 50-65% of scratches and swirls with a 1 step. While it may not sound like much it greatly improves paint appearance and gloss/shine.

2 Step Paint Correction Results
This is the good ol cut and buff. Using multiple grades of cutting compound and polishes allow deeper defect removal typically about 70-90%
Why can't I just use the heaviest cut compound and be done?
The more aggressive you cut a vehicle the more haze and dull the finish is left and must be refined after to restore gloss and shine. The cutting step is strictly focused on defect removal and will actually dull the finish alone, which is why we refine and restore maximum gloss with a 2nd step.
